Read Isaac's letter and learn how you can help:
I love Bikram Yoga, it is my passion, it is my life, & my practice is sacred to me. It has taken a great deal of time and determination to be where I am today and I am grateful to be embarking on this new journey with my yoga practice.
I first heard about Bikram Yoga when I was 19 years old and living on the west coast. I held on to that information through all the pain and suffering of my twenties – I never forgot. My body had been producing cysts on my back and spine. I had surgeries to remove the reachable cysts however the ones on my spine were too dangerous to operate for fear of spinal injury. This condition left me bed ridden for weeks. I was given three epidurals a week for two months. The neurosurgeon recommended I find a rigorous style of exercise to increase blood flow in the hopes of causing the cysts on my spine to break up naturally. I was stubborn and confused and ignored the advice. Three years later and 11 years after the first time I'd heard of Bikram Yoga, I walked into Bikram Yoga Dallas and took my first yoga class.
I instantly fell in love with Bikram Yoga. I was so pumped to be starting something new that was also very good for my health. I pushed my way through the entire class. I attempted every posture. I never sat down. I was exhausted afterwards then an hour later I felt an inconceivable energy overtake me – what an amazing state. I felt alive for the first time in years and I wanted more!
During my travels across the United States and Canada I always made time to practice Bikram Yoga. I have practiced under the instruction of some phenomenal teachers from all over the world. These teachers have imparted incredible inspiration and wisdom in me that I hope to one day share with others. I can honestly say after practicing throughout the country there is no finer studio than Bikram Yoga Dallas. My fellow yoga students are a boundless supply of motivation, inspiration and camaraderie. I feel blessed to be a part of the staff and want to take my service to a new level.
My dream is to become a Bikram certified instructor and teach at Bikram Yoga Dallas. I want to actualize my dream and inspire others the way I've been inspired! I am seeking to attend Bikram's 9 week intensive residential teacher training in the fall of 2008 and request your help by donating $1 per class as I complete 150 classes in 150 days!
Namaste—Isaac Christopher
