"Student of the month?" I asked my husband Allan, "How can I be student of the month? There are months I don't even go!" It's true, my practice has been less than consistent over the last two years, but let me explain: as a theatre arts teacher at a local high school and an ensemble member of a local theatre company, there are times when my work week is 80+ hours! Needless to say, during these times, my practice drops off the radar. But Allan, in his infinite wisdom replied, "Well, maybe what you lack in consistency you make up for in persistency." How true. I am, if nothing else, persistent. Thanks for noticing, Karen and David!
What keeps me persistent and draws me back after being away? When my life is in over-drive, Bikram is the carrot that keeps me in the race. I look at it as my reward. The minute my schedule lets me up for air I'm headed to the studio. It is my oasis (albeit a hot and sweaty one) that provides a phenomenal physical workout along with a blissful hour and a half of mind clearing meditation. Even when I am too busy to attend, I can still hear David or Karen reminding me to breathe, helping me outside of the classroom when I can't make it in. This studio and the lessons it teaches are nothing less than a gift. One of my favorite lessons is, "it's not about the destination, but the journey that counts." This is so true in Bikram Yoga and in life. I look forward to the days I can share in the experience and energy of the studio, and on the days that I can't make it I'm here in spirit! Thank you to everyone at Bikram Yoga for making my journey wonderful and beautiful. Persistency has paid off ten-fold!
