I have been doing Bikram Yoga for almost five years. Running has been a passion of mine for quite some time and I found Bikram Yoga through one of my cross-country teammates in high school. I began my practice in Memphis, TN and then moved to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University in 2008 and began practicing at Bikram Yoga Dallas.
Bikram Yoga has changed life in more ways than one. In November of 2010 I was struck by a car as I was crossing the street. I fractured my pelvis in three places and was told that my recovery would be slow and difficult. Within four weeks of my accident I was back in the "hot box." I truly believe that my quick and healthy recovery occurred due to my mental and physical strength, which I credit Bikram Yoga for giving me.
The people I've met through Bikram Yoga, both in Memphis and in Dallas, have become part of my family and that is something that I will cherish forever. Not only has this yoga helped compliment my running, it has also served as a type of therapy as I continue to recover.
Bikram Yoga has helped me to realize that life is full of challenges, but those challenges can be overcome when we practice self-control, patience, faith, and determination—all of which are put to work in each 90-minute class. The common goal that we all Bikram yogis share—improving our health and our lives—is something that you can actually feel through the group energy in each class and knowing this, I cannot help but smile. |
