What an honor to be student of the month! I am delighted to learn more about myself and the limits of my body every time I practice Birkam yoga. I marvel at the passion that other yogis have for Bikram yoga and aspire to be a better person in the studio and outside of the studio.

A couple of years ago I was introduced to Bikram yoga by a friend of mine who could not stop talking about her miracle exercise. She introduced me to Bikram yoga and I practiced for about a month. Though my first few experiences were enjoyable, it was something that I did not feel passionate about at the time because of other athletic activities. I decided to join Team in Training to raise money for leukemia by racing in a triathlon, and did not have enough time to do both. This experience not only helped others, but introduced me to some sports that I was not as good in, like cycling. Though I enjoyed training, it flared up an issue from my past, scoliosis. My back was especially painful during cycling the 2-3 hours during the weekends.

I went to the chiropractor to get some relief as I had done in the past when faced with scoliosis issues. During the consultation he informed me that recent research supports the possibility that scoliosis is a genetic condition, where the medulla oblongata needs more stimulation to realign my spine. He also informed me that my back will never be completely straight since I was no longer in a younger more resilient age group.

Because I wanted to complete the triathlon that I had painstakingly trained for over the past six months, I pushed though the pain and continued the chiropractic sessions. I decided to give Bikram yoga another chance after the big race was over. After my second week I felt most of the tension releasing and by the second month, my spinal column straightened with a very small curve. After four months, my rib cage no longer protruded to the right side, my back straightened even more and my breathing even improved. Every time I attempt the standing separate leg, head to knee pose, stimulating my medulla oblongata, I think of my chiropractor and his recommendation for stimulation the medulla oblongata.

I am delighted by the results of Bikram yoga and the ability of the human body to self heal. I have continued practicing and hope to prove my chiropractor wrong by having a straight spine one day, with the help of Bikram yoga! I thank everyone Bikram Yoga Dallas for the a more healthy, happy, and peaceful life.
