A mother discovers giving to herself also means giving to her family.

People tend to misperceive that because I am so dedicated to attending my daily yoga practices that I have a lot of free time. In truth, I probably pack more into a day than most people. I have a family, husband and two children and a full time job along with an extended list of everyday life activities. I find that when I practice Bikram yoga, everything that I am responsible for becomes less of a burden and more of a joy.

Before I would say that if mom is happy, everybody is happy, but I wasn't really living up to taking care of myself. When I really started practicing what I was preaching with yoga, I realized how it really was true and now I don't consider my yoga time just for me, but for my family also.

I was originally introduced to Bikram yoga by coworkers and friends Chang and Sheffy. They very enthusiastically included me in their excitement about yoga and we all approached it together.

From the beginning I knew that it was something I would stick with, even though I had never done anything like this before. I was never into sports or training, so it was a surprise when I felt such a connection with Bikram yoga practices. From the beginning I knew it was working for my spirit, mind and body. I felt lighter.

I used to be known as "ripping off heads" Lala but after a few weeks of doing yoga I noticed that I was much calmer and more at peace with other people. I have more patience and more importantly a true sense of commitment to my own self.

In January, I challenged myself to complete the 60-day challenge. In the beginning, it was difficult to commit to everyday practices, however I didn't give myself a chance to fall into my own traps of excuses. I finished my 60-day challenge and I'm still practicing yoga daily. So far I done 105 classes in 105 days and still going and going and going...

Somebody once told me that the priorities of life should start with God, then self, then family and finally work. I fell with yoga, I'm finally getting that right and it reflects in my life.

I would like to thank my teachers and fellow yogis, who humble me with their amazement and who are impressed by my every day practice. And extend special thanks to my husband for his support and to my two handsome boys who seem to think I should be able to reach 1 million classes in 1 million days.

And to those who wonder where "ripping off heads" Lala went…she left the building and is practicing Bikram Yoga.
